Young Carer Support Worker [Australia]


 

Carers NSW is the peak organisation for carers in NSW. We are a not-for-profit organisation connecting and empowering carers across NSW and improving their quality of life through activities, programs, training and policy advice. We advocate for carers of all ages and circumstances.

As the Young Carer Outreach Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for building upon local and strategic relationships in the support of young carers and travel across the NSW 4 region (Central Coast, Hunter New England and North Coast) to network and engage with relevant organisations and service providers such as schools, youth agencies, training organisations and other service providers.

This is a full time or part time (4 days) contract position until 30 June 2024.

Responsibilities include:

  • Build relationships with child and youth organisations and service providers to facilitate referrals to Carer Gateway.
  • Liaise with service providers, schools, youth services, vocational training organisations and employers to provide advice to young carers on Carer Gateway services available and other forms of support
  • Promote awareness of the program through presentations, informal meetings and dissemination of promotional material to possible referral sources.
  • Attend forums or networking activities to promote Carer Gateway and Carers NSW programs and services.
  • Support and work with other Carers NSW programs and services to promote young carer awareness
  • Establish strong connections with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD youth organisations and elders in the local community to promote services children and young people can access within Carer Gateway Region NSW 4.

Our ideal candidate should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with young people
  • Knowledge of the community care, health and disability services systems and other programs relevant to carers
  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement, ideally gained across a culturally diverse group or a geographically diverse area.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills
  • Understanding of the needs of Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families and communities
  • Knowledge of social and demographic features, common challenges and geography of part or all of the region (Central Coast, Hunter New England and North Coast)
  • Ability to work autonomously whilst still meeting the operational and delivery needs of the business.
  • Understanding of and commitment to young carer issues and needs
  • Current NSW drivers licence and the capacity to travel across the New England region

Salary and Benefits
