The Role

The Business Development Director reports to the GM Sub-Saharan Africa and will be located in South Africa and form part of the SSA leadership team.

About You

Develop, communicate & execute the vision for KC’s developing African markets. The role has accountability for USD 50 Million business driven by well-known brands such as HUGGIES®, BABYSOFT, KLEENEX® and KOTEX® and the ambition is to make it a USD 100 Million over the next 5 years.

The Business Development Director will partner with distributors and key local players to enable the expansion of our business. The successful candidate will need to be entrepreneurial, strategic with broad perspective, be able to craft brand growth strategies, as well as identify new category / business opportunities, and a strong knowledge of business operations. They will need to develop a strategic view of market prioritization, Channel resources accordingly and the ability to establish and build the right relationships with strategic partners that will enable successful market entries as well as growing our business in these markets, while tapping into the K-C resources, brands and operating system.

Explore, identify, and develop opportunities that broaden and strengthen the market position and profit potential of current & new markets.

Direct reports include 3 market Development Managers; 2 marketing manages, and indirect reports include Supply Chain, Finance, the leader will be able to navigate and perform in ambiguous and rapidly changing circumstances.

As the successful candidate

Will be able to demonstrate competencies and personal growth in the following areas:

  • Develop and Leverage Relationships

Build and sustain an excellent network of relationships at multiple levels within Kimberly-Clark and externally in particular distributors and key local players. Leverage these relationships strategically to execute objectives and turn them into action without compromising principles or Kimberly-Clark values. It is essential that you can demonstrate that you have the ability to work effectively in a matrix and collaborative team environment to build trust, influence others and drive performance.

Build strategic plans for future development and growth of the business aligned with Kimberly-Clark’s overall corporate vision. Translate the strategic plan into reality for execution while understanding the organizational ramifications. Take a strategic initiative and be able to determine what organizational change and necessary steps it will take to achieve the initiatives’ goals. Be future thinking and have an entrepreneurial spirit to lead growth for the business and evolve the organization model and capabilities.

  • Driving Results and Execution

Translates strategic priorities into operational reality, aligning communication, accountabilities, resource capabilities, internal processes, and measurement systems to ensure that strategic priorities yield measurable and sustainable results. be accountable for making decisions and delivering results.

  • Building Talent

Develop capability and performance in self and others to ensure that the organization has the talent needed to win in the marketplace and deliver on growth objectives. Be a champion for building a diverse pipeline of talent and progressing Kimberly-Clark’s diversity.

  • Brand Building

Ensure the building of Kimberly-Clark’s brand equity in all categories off line and in the digital world. Ensure that Kimberly-Clark manufactures, markets and distributes consumer-preferred, quality products that deliver best total value. Develop market leadership positions in priority categories and strategic category segments.

Preferred Requirements:

Education required: Undergraduate degree (business, marketing, commerce oriented). MBA would be a plus


Experience
:

  • Experience within a Business Development leadership role with a history of demonstrated business success in emerging countries in Sub-Saharan Africa markets with a high growth agenda;
  • P&L management; extensive knowledge of the CPG industry and prior experience working in a multi-national company.
  • Extensive commercial experience including working directly with major customers and driving commercial capability agendas (revenue growth management, in-store execution, category management, joint business planning and negotiation).
  • Marketing and brand building experience preferred, at minimum solid knowledge across the marketing disciplines required (consumer insights, product development, pricing strategy, creative development, commercial/brand programming, data-driven/digital marketing).
  • Experience of multiple distributors management model across various countries.
  • Ability to navigate across various cultures and create an inclusive environment driven by Ethics and K-C Ways of Working
  • Experience of working in a matrix and process driven environment while leading with agility and high entrepreneurial and growth driven mindset.
  • Entrepreneurial and winning spirit and resilience to quickly adapt to changing context.
